What people use it for

Four ways to use a random food generator

Deciding what to eat

Set it to one food and press the button until something makes you hungry. Each result opens a full recipe with the method and the timings, so the answer is something you can actually cook.

Games and party prompts

Generate ten and you have a list for food trivia, charades, a guess-the-cuisine round or a pictionary deck. The copy button puts the list on your clipboard in one go.

Drawing and photo prompts

Artists and food photographers use random food lists as daily prompts. Every dish here comes with a photograph, so you have a reference as well as a name.

A weekly cooking challenge

Pull one dish from a cuisine you have never cooked and make it on the weekend. Filter to a single cuisine to go deep on one kitchen, or leave it open for a tour.

Cooked it? Make it look the part

Snap the dish you made and let the AI re-plate it the way a fine-dining kitchen would send it, with the steps that explain what changed. The first one is free. Or try the free demo first, with no account.

FAQ

Random food questions, answered

How does the random food generator work?

It draws from the Plate Artists recipe catalog: real dishes across 18 cuisines, from Czech svíčková and Japanese ramen to Mexican birria and French crème brûlée. Press the button and it deals one at random, with its picture. Under the result you can choose how many foods, the kind of dish, the cuisine and whether it has to be vegetarian, and each change deals again. Everything runs in your browser, so it is instant and nothing is sent anywhere.

Why do I not get the same food twice in a row?

The generator deals like a shuffled deck rather than rolling a die. Once a dish has come up, it will not come up again until every other dish that matches your filters has been shown, and a new shuffle never starts with the dish you just saw. Changing a filter starts a fresh deck for that combination.

Is it weighted towards any cuisine?

Deliberately less than the catalog is. Our catalog has more Czech dishes than anything else, so a plain random pick would hand you a Czech dish nearly half the time. The generator weights each dish by the square root of how many share its cuisine, which keeps the big cuisines common without letting them crowd out the rest: a Czech dish comes up first about one spin in five, not one in two.

Can I generate a random food list?

Yes. Set the count to 3, 5 or 10 and you get that many different foods at once, shown as cards with photos, plus a copy button that puts the whole list on your clipboard as plain text for a game, a group chat or a shopping plan.

Can it pick a random cuisine?

Yes. The Random cuisine button picks one of the cuisines in the catalog, each with the same chance, and shows up to three dishes from it. It keeps your course and vegetarian choices, never gives the same cuisine twice in a row, and you can press Generate again for more dishes from the cuisine it landed on.

Can I share or bookmark my settings?

Yes. The address in your browser follows your choices, so a link to five random desserts opens with the same filters for whoever you send it to. The dishes themselves are dealt fresh each time.

What is the difference between this and the dinner generator?

The dinner generator answers one question, what to cook tonight, so it asks how much time you have and gives you one dinner with a few alternatives. This generator is for everything else: random foods in any number, any course including desserts, soups and sides, and no time filter.

Is it free?

Yes, with no account, no email and no card. Every recipe it links to is free to read in full. The only part of Plate Artists that needs an account is the AI plating studio.

What should I have for dinner?

The narrower tool: tell it how long you have and get one dinner to cook tonight, with a few alternatives.

Which plate colour for your food?

Pick your dish's dominant colour and see which plate makes it look best, and which one makes it disappear.
